Question
Is it recommended to use the zero point calibration for a 5500 Silica analyzer?
Summary
5500 Silica Analyzer zero point
Answer
While it is possible to use the zero calibration option on a 5500 Silica analyzer with software version 1.09 or higher, it is not typically recommended to use this feature. How is the Zero calibration enabled on the 5500sc/9610sc Silica Analyzer

In most installations the blank value on the molybdate bottle should be sufficient.  If very low silica concentrations are being measured and there is an issue with high readings that are not caused by instrument issues, Is there a customer troubleshooting guide for the 5500sc Silica and Phosphate analyzers?, or blueing of the sample cell, the reagent blank may need to be adjusted How to verify or adjust the reagent blank on the 5500 sc or Series 5000 Silica Analyzer in the field?.

If  the zero calibration option is used, the blank value would need to be changed in the menu to the value of zero instead of what is stated on the molybdate bottle.  This allows the analyzer to adjust the point as needed through the zero calibration operation.
