What is the cause and resolution steps for an Error one (E1) message on a Pocket Colorimeter II?

Explanation of the E-1 on a PCII.
Answer
**OBSOLETE ITEM**
Error 1 on a Pocket Colorimeter II is an ambient light error. This error is displayed when the instrument's detector is picking up more light than what it normally picks up from the LED light source.

Most of the time this is caused by the instrument cap not being used as a light shield as instructed in the documentation. Make sure that the instrument cap is being used as a light shield, this will resolve this issue in most cases.

If the error message is being displayed while the instrument cap is on, then try replacing the batteries. If replacing the batteries doesn't resolve the error message, then the instrument will require either service or replacement.
