Due to the updated SDS classifications with current CDTA solution formulation (2589636), the 13% TMAH (Tetramethyammonium Hydroxide) carries a hazard statement of H310 – Fatal in contact with skin. This updated classification caused concern with many customers; therefore, Hach re-formulated the reagent with a 1:1 dilution to 6.5% TMAH; well below the 10% fatality classification. The current, and soon to be obsolesced CDTA solution (2589636), formulation has never changed since the product was first released; only the hazard statement had been updated to H310.
-KEY MESSAGE POINTS:
- The new formulation, 2589723, is packaged in a 1-oz SCDB bottle
- In the updated procedure, the operator will use 2 drops per test instead of 1 drop
- Two drops of the CDTA solution is needed because the formulation has been diluted in half to decrease the TMAH concentration from 13% to 6.5%
- The new CDTA formulation carries a hazard statement of H311 – Toxic in contact with skin, instead of the fatal in contact with skin (H310)
