Question
What is the cause of short battery life on the FL900?
Summary
Some causes of short battery life on the FL900.
Answer
There are numerous causes for short battery life on an FL900-
  1. Problems related to FL900 programming.
    1. If the Call Interval is too short, it will shorten the battery life.  For example, the Call Interval is 60 minutes, but if it gets set to 5 minutes (for a test or other reason) but doesn’t get changed back.
    2. If the Logging Interval is too short, it will shorten the battery life.  For example, the Logging Interval is 10 minutes, but it gets set to 1 minutes (for a test or other reason) but doesn’t get changed back.
  2. Problems related to current draw.
    1. The logger draws too much current (meaning, it is defective).  If you suspect this, change out the FL900 and see if the problem goes away.
    2. The sensor draws too much current (meaning, it is defective).  If you change out the FL900 and the problem doesn’t go away, change out the sensor and see if that fixes the problem.
  3. Problems related to water ingress
    1. Check the internal battery compartment for water ingress or corrosion of the batteries.  Usually this is caused by a poor O-ring seal (See Changing the internal batteries on the FL900”) or a crack in the battery compartment lid.
    2. If you have a Long Life Battery, check the connector on the Battery Cap (inside the Long Life Battery tube) for integrity.
    3. If you have a Long Life Battery, check for water in the battery tube .
