Question
What can cause a baseline to drift downwards on a Lachat Flow Injection Analyzer?
Summary
Baseline drifting down
Answer
There are a number of possible causes. Below is a list of things to consider or verify for this concern:
  • Old pump tubing
  • Clog or crimp in manifold
  • Change O rings
  • Heater up to temperature, or fluctuating
  • Staining in manifold
  • Check baseline with DI water running through it
  • Pump flow rate
  • Inverse chemistries will have decreasing baseline for flow problems
  • Valve leaking
  • Peaks are broad and flat
  • Pump speed. Do pump speed test.
  • Waste line plugged or submerged
  • Correct pump tubes
  • Sample loop- correct length and correct inner diameter
  • Reagents and standards made correctly
  • Detector is working correctly and the correct filter is used
