Question
With TNT810 and TNT811 how is Total Inorganic Carbon (TIC) determined?
Summary
TIC determination from TNT810 and TNT811.
Answer

When using TOC TNTplus Vial Test, LR (1.5 - 30.0 mg/L C; (Product # TNT810) and TOC TNTplus Vial Test, HR (30-300 mg/L C; (Product # TNT811), two tests have to be done:
  • The test should be done without the use of the shaker (or 'sparging') step.  The results for this test are Total Carbon (TC) which is both TIC and Total Organic Carbon (TOC).
  • The test should be repeated on a fresh sample using the shaking step.  The results for this test are TOC.
  • TIC is the difference between TC and TOC (TC - TOC = TIC).
These reagents have not been validated for TC, only for TOC with the sparging step. It may not work in all applications.
