The 0.9 x VMAX method is the simplest method. Measure the velocity at different points of
the cross section to determine the maximum velocity in the pipe. The average velocity is
calculated by multiplying the maximum velocity by 0.9. 
 
To profile the flow:
1. Measure the velocity at a series of points throughout the entire flow.
2. Identify the fastest velocity. In most cases, this is in the center just beneath
the surface.
3. Multiply the fastest velocity by 0.9
