Question
When is it appropriate to use a round versus a square beaker with a Jar Tester?
Summary
Jar Tester square and round beaker use
Answer
Jar tests are performed on the bench to duplicate what is happening in the plant as accurately as possible. If the plant has square basins, one should use square jars in the jar test. Likewise, one should use round beakers to duplicate round basins.

Some labs use square jars regardless of plant structure simply because the mixing action in a square jar is much more rigorous and thorough.
