  1. Start the OPC DataLogger program by clicking on the start menu/programs/Hach/OPC Datalogger.
  2. Set the program options.  On the File menu, select Options (Ctrl + O).  An Options Dialog box will appear.  Configure the appropriate program options, and click OK.
  3. Add Data Items (Tags).
From Item menu, select Add Item. The Add Item window appears.  Browse the tree and select items. Click Add to move them to the selection list.  After configuring all the tags, click OK to add the items to the configuration for logging.  For each item selected, you will be prompted to enter the OPC properties and Log Properties.  Click OK to finish the add item process. The items will appear under the appropriate logger tab.
Note: You must stop logging data to add OPC Tags.   
Note: To change existing items, double-click the item to display the Item Properties window
 
  1. Start Logging Data
From the Logger menu, select Start Logger. A "logging is now started" window will appear. Click OK. A green circle will indicate the logger is active.
 
  1. Stop Logging Data
From the Logger menu, select Stop Logger. A Continue? window will appear. Click Yes. A "logging is now stopped" window will appear. Click OK.
 
  1. Viewing the Data Log in a Notepad
The data log files are stored in .csv (comma separated values) format. They are simple ASCII files that can be opened with Windows Notepad or Wordpad. A sample file is shown below.

The first row contains a description for each column. Each column is separated by commas. The Date and Time are stored in the first column, and the tag values are stored in the remaining columns.
 
  1. Viewing the Data Log in Excel
The data log files are stored in .csv (comma separated values) format. They are simple ASCII files that can be opened directly with Microsoft Excel and viewed as a spreadsheet or graph. To open a data log file with Excel, start the Excel application, the perform the following steps:

Click the open file toolbar button or select Open from the File menu.
Change the "Files of Type" to Text Files (*.prn; *.txt; *.csv).
Click Open. The data is read directly into Excel. A new column is started  wherever a comma appeared in the data file.
**Using Excel's chart wizard, a graph can be created.
