Answer
Yes, glutamic acid will contribute to nitrogenous demand of BOD. If nitrification inhibitor is added, the result will be lower because the NH 2 is not being oxidized to nitrate or nitrite. Per standard methods, adjust (increase) the amount of seed, even with CBOD, to get within the 198 ± 30.5 mg/L.

Note: Glucose, on the other hand, will contribute only a carbonaceous demand.


Why are CBOD results lower than BOD results when testing a BOD standard solution formulated from GGA?
