Question
Can the sensor of the IntelliCAL™ ISECL181 Chloride ISE be polished like other vendors’ crystalline membranes?
Summary
Membrane care for Chloride ISE
Answer
Yes, however it is important for customers not to “over‐polish” the chloride ISE as the sensor is softer than that used in fluoride ISEs. Especially for low‐level measurement, it is recommended to polish using a 1 μm diamond paste and rinse with DI water. Ascorbic acid can also be used to remove any oxidizing layer on the probe surface. This type of treatment should not be necessary unless testing at very low‐levels (<10 ppm) and then the benefits are only short lived as the surface oxidizes quickly.
