Answer
The 5500sc Silica and Phosphate multiple stream analyzers can be placed into standby mode by idling all sample channels via the digital inputs. For example, if you have a four channel analyzer, closing a set of relay contacts on digital inputs 1-4 will place the analyzer into shutdown mode. Normal analysis will resume if any of these sets of contacts are opened for that input's respective sample channel.
Please note that this will not work on analyzers with software versions lower than v1.09. If you wish to utilize this function, please update the analyzer to the latest software version. 

It is also possible to use a reserved Modbus register (#49937) called Program Sequence Code register (not listed in the manual) which will allow the user to remotely start/stop the analyzer through the module. Write 40007 (Decimal) to this register to put the analyzer in standby mode and 40008 (Decimal) to restart it.
