Question
If the test paper in the Hydrogen Sulfide Test Kit, Model HS-C gets wet will this impact the test?
Summary
Hydrogen Sulfide Test Kit, Model HS-C sample foams and test paper gets wet
Answer
When using the hydrogen sulfide test kit, model HS-C (Product # 2537800) on wastewater the Alka-Seltzer may foam and get the test paper wet, if this happens the test will not work correctly. An alternate to using Alka-Seltzer is to aerate the sample with a small aquarium air hose. Put a small hole in the lid, and aerate the sample. The sample should be aerated with an amount of gas similar to what is produced by the Alka-Seltzer. Ensure that there is a good seal around the tube in the lid to minimize the loss of hydrogen sulfide. When following this procedure the results will be an approximation as it is difficult to confirm that the sample has been aerated  to the same extent as with Alka-Seltzer. Most likely following this method will result in the loss of some hydrogen sulfide. Depending on the application the Hydrogen Sulfide Color Disc Test Kit, Model HS-WR (Product # 223801) may be a better option.
