Question
Is it necessary to have the latest software version when using the Pour-Thru Cell, Dual Path, 1 in/ 1 cm, on a DR 3900 or DR 6000 spectrophotometer?
Summary
Software update for Pour-Thru cell methods
Answer
The software update for the DR 3900 and DR 6000 spectrophotometers that occurred in October 2013 included a correction to the calibration curve for the programs which use the new Pour-Thru Cell, Dual Path, 1 in/ 1 cm (Product # LZV876).

Instruments manufactured before that time had calibration curves that were only compatible with the old style Pour-Thru Cells.

Using new Pour-Thru Cells on instruments still using the older calibration curves will result in measurement values that are approximately 8% too high, due to a slight change in the path length between the two cells.

The older calibration curves are on versions of software before version 1.05 on the DR 6000 spectrophotometer and before version 1.07 on the DR 3900 spectrophotometer.

This only affects program numbers 227, 261, 488, 489, 645, 82, and 86 which are the Rapid Liquid and Ultra Low Range programs for Hardness, Silica, Chlorine, Ferrozine Iron, and Reactive Phosphorus (not in that order).
