Many Hach methods include instructions for perfoming a standard addition or a sample spike. General standard addition (spiking) instructions are available in the Hach Water Analysis Handbook, Section 3: Chemical Analysis.

Attached are step by step instructions for standard additions. Standard additions is a common technique for checking test results for interferences, bad reagents, faulty instruments, and incorrect procedures.
