Question
How should the results of pathoscreen medium method 8506 be interpreted?
Summary
Color change from yellow to black or black precipitate indicates positive. No color change indicates negative.
Answer
If the color changes from yellow to black and/or a black precipitate forms, the result is positive for hydrogen sulfide producing bacteria. If there is no color change, the result is negative and the bottle should be allowed to incubate for an additional 12-24 hours and re-evaluate. If there is no color change record the result as negative.
