Question
What are the interferences for the glutaraldehyde test kit?
Summary
Glutaraldehyde test kit interferences GT-1
Answer
• Traces of the other aldehydes are the main known interferences.
• Formaldehyde will react immediately without the heating step.
• Only high purity water (organic free or aldehyde free) must be used
• Lack of adequate heating causes low results
• High levels of strong reducing agents destroys the ferric chloride reagent, but that is doubtful to be in a sample also
The chemical reactions are the same as for the formaldehyde test method, except that the reaction is heated, so the Glutaraldehyde test kit has the same interferences as those listed on page 3-4 of this method:  Formaldehyde, MBTH Method 8110.
