What type of samples can the APHA method be applied to?
Application of the APHA method
The APHA method measures only yellowish colors that are found in natural waters from sources such as leaves, barks, roots, humus, and peat materials (some documentation indicates that it is for almost water-clear products). The method is not appropriate for measuring color in industrial wastes containing dyes, or to isolate certain types of contaminants. The application and scope of the method does not include oil. The LICO Color Meter following the method for transparent liquids is a more suitable instrument and method for measuring oils (including mineral oil).
