How can a customer determine if digestion is necessary for measuring total iron?
Determining if digestion is necessary for total iron measurement
Digestion is the only way to know with certainty that you are measuring all of the iron in the sample. To be sure all of the iron in a sample is measured, digest a sample and compare the results with an undigested portion of the same sample. If there is no difference between the digested and undigested results, it is likely that a digestion will not change the results for total iron. However, if USEPA requirements require and results are being reported to a regulatory agency, digest every sample. FerroVer® reagent has an advantage over other iron reagents that it will measure all of the soluble forms and some of the insoluble forms of iron in the sample.
