Question
What is the best way to verify results of dissolved oxygen using the Winkler titration method?
Summary
How to verify Winkler titration dissolved oxygen results
Answer
The best way to check results for any test is to use a standard solution in place of your sample. A standard solution contains a known concentration of the analyte being measured. If the standard solution result matches the concentration of the standard, this indicates that the reagents and the test are working properly. Unfortunately, a dissolved oxygen standard solution of known concentration is difficult to make. For the Dissolved Oxygen Winkler titration, however, a potassium iodide-iodate standard solution can be substituted. This standard, equivalent to 10 mg/L dissolved oxygen, checks the strength of the sodium thiosulfate solution used for the titration.
