What is free ammonia and when is it used?
Definition of free ammonia
Chloramination is the treatment of drinking water with a chloramine disinfectant. During the process of chloramination, chlorine and ammonia are added to water to form monochloramine. The portion of ammonia that has not combined with chlorine is free ammonia.

The concentration of free ammonia is measured using Chloramine (Mono) Nitrogen Free Ammonia Method 10200 referenced in the Water Analysis Handbook (WAH).
